How to pick a window tint shade
The number is how much light gets through. A lower number is darker. Here is how to choose one that looks good and keeps you legal.
What the percent means
The number is called VLT, for visible light transmission. 35% lets 35% of the light through, so it is lighter than 20%. 5% is very dark, often called limo tint.
What is legal in Georgia
As of October 2026, front side windows must be 28% or lighter. On a sedan, coupe or hatchback, the rear side windows and the back window must be 15% or lighter. On an SUV, truck or most vans, the rear windows can be darker, but the front side windows still have to be 28% or lighter. The state allows about 3% either way on a meter reading.
That means 35% is a safe front shade, 20% is a common rear shade, and 5% is not legal on the front windows of any vehicle.
Shades we stock
We install 70%, 50%, 40%, 35%, 20% and 5%, depending on the film. Not every shade comes in every film, so ask for the one you want.
A simple way to choose
Use the tint tool on our home page. Pick your vehicle, move the sliders for the front and back windows, and see how it looks. It flags anything that is darker than Georgia allows for that vehicle. The picture is a mock-up and may not be your exact car.
