Signs the old tint is done
Bubbles, peeling edges and a purple look are the common ones. Cheap dyed film breaks down in the sun over time, and once it starts it does not go back.
Why you cannot tint over it
New film needs clean glass. If the old film is left on, the new film will not stick right and any bubbles underneath show through. So the old film comes off first.
